RESUMO

The physiological basis for blindsight -- the ability to react adequately but unconsciously to visual stimuli -- is assumed to be due to the transmission of retinal impulses from the periphery of the retina, elicited by internal reflections of the refracted image illuminating the interior of the eye. These impulses are transmitted via the superior colliculi to phylogenetic old parts of the brain. These same mechanisms are supposed to be responsible for phenomena having been confused with 'filling-in'.

RESUMO

Homeopathy was already known to Hippocrates and further studied by Hahnemann. However, since the discovery of the medical effects of digitalis by William Withering around 1785, and the first synthesis of an organic molecule, urea, by Friedrich Wöhler in 1828, and through the further rapid evolution of modern pharmacological chemistry and molecular biology, it has gradually been abandoned as a serious therapeutic alternative to allopathy by most practitioners of scientifically founded medicine. Because a credible scientific explanation for its mode of action has been lacking, homeopathy is regarded by many medical researchers and scientists as, at best, placebo therapy, in spite of the fact that for centuries hosts of patients have testified to its effects. It is suggested that the gulf between homeopathy and allopathy can be reconciled if one takes into consideration modern knowledge of physiology, biochemistry and the physical properties of the water used in the potentiation process. A description of the mechanisms occurring during potentiation, both inside and outside a live mammalian organism, is presented.

RESUMO

We use various strategies in order to attain a complete knowledge of reality. One of these is using "filling-in". What is and is not filling-in is discussed. The brain may process light which reaches the retina in two fundamentally different ways. The conclusion is that many a patient with perimetrically verifiable visual field defects with each eye separately experiences a complete image of his total surrounding. The quality of this image correlates to the neuronal capacity of the retina in question. What generally has been assumed to be due to filling-in is in this specific instance a newly discovered faculty in the system consisting of eye and brain naively, we have walked straight into the trap of blaming this faculty on filling-in.

RESUMO

The size, form and charge of the stabilized water clusters present in the aqueous humour of the mammalian eye influence the facility for aqueous flow through the pupillary ball valve and through the trabecular meshwork. The properties of the clusters can be influenced in many different ways, all of which can influence the anterior and posterior chamber intraocular pressures as well as the uveoscleral outflow.

RESUMO

It is a firm necessity for us nowadays to reawaken the sense of spiritual realities and gain a new understanding of the properties of the etheric forces in the physical body, which are living in, carried by and transmitted through the molecular clusters formed in water by the pulsations of the blood. The important mechanisms of potentiation--voluntary in the mouth and involuntary in the tears--are presented here. The existence of a biomechanical ball valve inside the eye regulating the anterior chamber intraocular pressure is proposed. A theory about why intoxication with chemical substances can be relieved by the use of the same toxic substance potentiated to a higher potency, the effect gradually becoming less physical, is presented.

RESUMO

It can no longer reasonably be denied that potentiated remedies such as those used by homoeopaths can have profound effects on the health of human beings. A possible mechanism for the way in which these remedies influence a live biological mammalian system is presented.

The aim of the present work was to create a simple and cheap device for photographing the anterior segment and the media of the eye in direct illumination and by retroillumination. By illuminating the eye from a point near the centre of the anterior surface of the camera lens, the anterior segment and the media of the eye can be photographed. Pictures made in this manner and technical data for the device used are presented.

RESUMO

Episcleral venous pressure was measured by means of an air jet at different levels of occlusion of the measured vessel. This was repeated at different points in one branching venous plexus system. The results indicate that the most reliable estimate of the pressure is obtained at the pressure level at which the blood column becomes somewhat paler. Occlusion of the vessel causes a rise in venous pressure which may be considerable, especially in large veins.
